WOOLLAND

Dedication unknown

The church was built in 1857 and designed by Sir Gilbert Scott.  Outside, the lasting impression is of the polygonal features; bell turret with spire above and the apse.  With such an outstanding architect perhaps one should expect something special and he certainly does not disappoint with a most impressive chancel in the form of a polygonal apse with Purbeck shafting and quite majestic rib vaulting above.  The chancel is so unexpected in such a relatively small building that one cannot avoid being moved by it.  The pulpit is also splendid and approached through an arch.  The nave is fairly typical of its period.  Octagonal font.  Monument to Mary Argenton 1616 with verse inscription.
