WIMBORNE MINSTER

The Choir

Wimborne Minster - Choir looking West

The choir stalls are Jacobean of about 1610.  During the restoration of 1857 the canopies were removed and other work undertaken by Benjamin Grassby, the well-known sculptor, whose work is found in many Dorset churches.  Some of the stalls still have misericords, which allowed choristers to enjoy some support while standing.  These are carved and there is an example of a 'green man' under the stall next to the Rector's.
