SHERBORNE ABBEY
The Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre

The Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre is a quiet place that has been set apart for private prayer. It is almost certainly Norman in origin and corresponds to the Wykeham Chapel on the north side, however it was rebuilt in the 14c and altered again in the 15c.

The wooden carving on the left side of the chapel is a 15c Burgundian statue of St. James of Compostela and was given by Eveleen Fisher-Rowe in memory of the safe arrival in the the USA in 1940 of David, Judith and Catherine Greenacre and Frederick Wingfield-Digby. On the right side, the monastic figure is St Aldhelm with his harp. Note also a piscina.
