This is a very beautiful part of Dorset and the hamlet nestles below the ramparts of Spread Eagle Hill. The church stands well above the road that winds through the steep valley, but cannot be seen until you are very close to it.
St Thomas' is a complete rebuild by the Victorians in 1851-2 to a design by George Evans of Wimborne. For the size of the village, this is an impressive church complete with an imposing west tower and a separate a high crossing. Perhaps the most impressive piece of church furniture is the richly carved font, also of 1852. There is some excellent stone carving.
